In light of issues surrounding agriculture, such as responding to climate change and ensuring a stable supply of food, the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries is currently working to revise the Basic Act on Food, Agriculture and Rural Areas, which stipulates basic policies for agricultural policy. We will start work to verify where there is a problem in the law of

The Basic Law on Food, Agriculture and Rural Areas, which came into force in 1999, is also called the "Constitution of Agricultural Policy," and sets out the basic policies of agricultural policy, such as securing food. I instructed them to carry out verification work in anticipation of the revision of the law so that they can respond to the issues they face.

In response to this, on the 29th, at a council held at the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, Minister Nomura said, "I would like to ask for lively discussion so that the basic law will look 20 years from now." We have newly established a verification committee that gathers representatives of food manufacturers.

As early as October, the verification committee will begin work to verify where the current law has issues.

Then, in light of climate change issues and changes in the international situation triggered by Russia's military invasion, it is necessary to strengthen food security and sustainably grow agriculture. I am going to discuss it.

The Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries has decided to summarize the conclusions for the revision of the law based on the discussions of the Verification Committee.

Section chair Professor Nakajima "Proceed with verification looking ahead 20 years"

Professor Yasuhiro Nakajima of the University of Tokyo Graduate School, who was appointed as the chairman of the verification committee, said, "With the lack of workers in agriculture, further population decline is a very serious problem, and in addition to securing successors, it is possible to save labor. The spread of smart agriculture is also important for securing food.I would like to proceed with verification looking 20 years from now while conducting interviews with the field and experts."
