Mercadona

will gradually stop making bread

in the different lines of its stores and will strengthen collaboration with local specialists in this category, as in the rest of the assortment, reports Europa Press.

The objective of its decision is to "optimize the manufacturing processes to generate more efficiency and profitability", and will add more than 20 suppliers to make the bread themselves, Mercadona reported in a statement on Tuesday.

He has pointed out that the progressive closure of the production lines,

present in eight logistics blocks, will not affect the 650 people

that make it up, who will be relocated.

Mercadona has gradually incorporated local suppliers such as Valero in Catalonia, PandeCan in the Canary Islands or Mondat in Andalusia.

The general director of bread manufacturing, Ariana González, has assured that after almost four years making bread, this decision allows "strengthening" the company's role as a prescriber and offering products at the lowest possible price.
