NTT DoCoMo will make a full-fledged entry into the Metaverse business, a virtual space on the Internet.

We plan to invest a total of 60 billion yen in this business and make it a new earnings pillar.

According to the announcement, NTT DoCoMo will establish a company specializing in the development of Metaverse and AR (augmented reality) services.

The new company will develop entertainment-related services such as holding live performances by artists on the Metaverse, as well as providing Metaverse spaces to external companies.

NTT Docomo plans to recruit 200 engineers and other personnel from group companies, and plans to invest 60 billion yen in this field in the future.

At the press conference on the 28th, an idol group formed by virtual and real members performed songs and dances in the Metaverse space.

The Metaverse space is being used in a variety of fields, such as major department stores selling products and Kyoto City providing tourist information.

While the mobile phone business is sluggish due to population decline, the company intends to make the Metaverse business a new pillar of earnings.

Seiji Maruyama, president of the new company, said, "We would like to cooperate with the entire group, provide new value and experience, and expand our business overseas."
