The Prime Minister, Elisabeth Borne, announced it on Monday: the price of a pack of cigarettes “will increase like inflation”.

After two years of stability, the package will undergo a first increase of 50 cents in 2023, then a second of 35 cents in 2024, to reach an average price of 11 euros, said Bercy.

Overall, the packages are set to be around 70 cents more expensive than today.

Beyond of course the impact on health, this increase could well end up convincing smokers who wanted to draw a line under this bad habit, or give the desire to those who had not (yet) thought about it. .
