The Director-General of the General Authority of Civil Aviation, Saif Muhammad Al-Suwaidi, said that the number of graduates within the air traffic control localization program at the Sheikh Zayed Air Navigation Center has reached 68, indicating that the Emiratisation rate in the air traffic control sector at the center has reached 52%.

According to the authority, among the conditions that must be met by the person applying for the training program for air traffic control, is that he be a citizen of the UAE, his age ranges between 19 and 25 years, and he holds a high school certificate, with an average of not less than 75%, as well as a good level in English language.

The authority explained that the student applies to join the air traffic control training program, and after passing all the General Authority of Civil Aviation tests and the medical examination for air traffic controllers, he joins the air traffic control training program.

She added that the program lasts between 24 and 30 months, during which work is carried out to develop the trainee's various capabilities and qualify him to work in supportive technical jobs, in order to gain experience in the field of aviation and air navigation, and he is also attached to specialized internal and external courses.

The authority pointed out that when the trainee passes the training program and obtains the air traffic control license, he is appointed to the position of air traffic officer at the Sheikh Zayed Air Navigation Center, which is the latest, most developed and equipped in the Middle East, and which serves air traffic in the Emirates, which is the highest density in the Middle East. middle.

It is noteworthy that during the past year, in cooperation with the provider of air navigation training services in New Zealand, the authority has reproduced a highly flexible and efficient air navigation training system that suits the requirements of the General Civil Aviation Authority.

The program provides virtual training capabilities for the theoretical and practical aspects, and an educational curriculum based on cloud computing, in addition to recruiting a training cadre to provide a specialized and intensive training program that includes “ICAO 051”, which is considered the entrance and the primary educational course for air traffic control, in addition to the “ICAO 054 and ICAO 055” courses, which They are concerned with air traffic control exercises via radar and procedural exercises in an environment that does not depend on air traffic radar.
