One in two adult French people has more than 128,000 euros in assets, according to the Global Wealth Report published by Credit Suisse on Tuesday.

This sum is indeed the median heritage in France, which means that half of the population has more and the other less, reports BFMTV.

The French median wealth has thus increased by 9% compared to 2020. Last year, the average wealth was for its part 280,000 euros, a figure pulled up by the great French fortunes.

This heritage is made up of 60% real estate assets and 40% financial assets, a very French specificity compared to, for example, Switzerland and the United Kingdom.

We estimate that global wealth totaled USD 463.6 trillion at the end of 2021, a rise of USD 41.4 trillion (9.8%).

Wealth per adult grew by USD 6,800 (8.4%) during the year to reach USD 87,489 globally.

Deep wealth inequalities

The French thus benefit from a greater median wealth than in other countries in better economic health.

In Germany, for example, the median wealth is just over 62,500 euros.

In the United States, it is 94,400 euros.

Thus, a Frenchman is virtually 2.3 times “richer” than a German and 1.5 times “richer” than an American, summarizes BFMTV.

This difference is explained by a better distribution of wealth in France, according to the report.

The wealthiest 1% represent 22.3% of total wealth, while they concentrate 31.7% in Germany and 35.1% in the United States.

The countries with the lowest median wealth are India (3,338 euros), Brazil (3,848 euros), Indonesia (4,900 euros) and Russia (6,463 euros).
