Yesterday, the Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation announced the start-up of the third plant of the Barakah Peaceful Nuclear Energy Plant in the Al Dhafra region in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, by the Corporation's Nawah Energy Company, which is responsible for operating and maintaining the Barakah plants, which marks the beginning of the gradual raising of the plant's reactor capacity, to reach into commercial operation after several months.

This new achievement highlights the great progress made during the development process of the four Barakah plants, which is the first multi-station peaceful nuclear energy project in operation in the Arab world, and plays a pivotal role in the process of accelerating the reduction of the carbon footprint of the energy sector in the UAE, in order to reach to climate neutrality by 2050.

This achievement, represented by the start of operation of the third station in Barakah, was achieved one year after the start of operation of the second station, while the next step is to connect the third station to the main electricity network in the country in the coming weeks.

This achievement comes at a time when many countries are seeking to mitigate the effects of energy shortages, as a result of the current energy crisis that the world is witnessing, which confirms the positive results of the studied future vision of the UAE, when it took the decision in 2008 to add nuclear energy to its portfolio of diverse energy sources. Which resulted in providing a reliable source of environmentally friendly primary load electricity for the state.

Once commercially operational, the third plant will add up to another 1,400 megawatts of carbon-free electricity to the UAE electricity grid, which is a major guarantee for energy security in the country, and a major step forward towards confronting climate change, as Barakah plants provide friendly electric power. The environment for homes, businesses and advanced technical industries throughout the country, while the successive achievements of Barakah highlight the great capabilities of the UAE in the development and management of mega projects.

His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, representative of the ruler in the Al Dhafra region, stressed that "the developments and challenges the world is witnessing confirm the correctness of the long-term vision of the wise leadership, and the approach of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the State, in anticipating the future and its requirements. Especially with regard to energy security, which represents a safety valve and an essential pillar of sustainable development.”

His Highness pointed out that the start of the operation of the third plant of the Barakah Peaceful Nuclear Energy Plant in the Al Dhafra region in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi confirms the success of the efforts of the UAE to achieve the goals of its strategic initiative for climate neutrality by 2050, by diversifying environmentally friendly energy sources and accelerating the reduction of the footprint. carbon emissions of the energy sector at the local level.

His Highness said: "Barakah plants, which is one of the most advanced nuclear plants in the world during the development stages of its four plants, has contributed to the establishment of a distinguished generation of Emirati engineers, operators and specialists in the peaceful nuclear energy sector, which falls within the safe and environmentally friendly energy sectors. This generation has made significant contributions to the development of the UAE’s peaceful nuclear program, which has become a model for all new similar projects worldwide, in addition to continuing to support the UAE’s sustainable development process to achieve a more prosperous future for future generations.”

His Highness added: “The joining of the third plant, to the first and second stations, in the operational phase, enhances energy security at the local level, and confirms the continuity of the state’s efforts to develop the nuclear energy sector as a strategic source of abundant, reliable and environmentally friendly electricity. This achievement also reflects the scale of efforts The exceptional efforts made by the Emirati competencies in light of the wise leadership’s support to continue the completion of the project according to the approved schedule, while following the highest internationally approved standards and practices, to consolidate the UAE’s global leadership position in the energy sector.”

His Highness said: "A new achievement has been achieved on Barakah land, which contributes to the development of a carbon-free economy, and guarantees our country a prosperous present and a promising future for our generations within the framework of comprehensive renaissance."
