Yesterday (20th), the government was about to announce the rate of increase in electricity rates for the fourth quarter, but hastily delayed it due to consultations with ministries.

Park Il-joon, 2nd Vice Minister of Industry, said today, "We are considering a plan to raise the fuel cost adjustment unit price for the fourth quarter, which will be applied from next month, up to 10 won."

Electricity rate consists of basic rate, standard fuel cost, climate environment rate, and fuel cost adjustment rate.

Among them, the maximum increase in fuel cost adjustment unit price, which is adjusted every quarter, will be expanded to 10 won per kWh.

When the adjusted unit price was raised by 5 won per kWh in the third quarter, the average monthly electricity bill for a four-person household increased by 1,535 won.

If you raise 10 won per kWh in the fourth quarter, it will increase by 3,70 won.

The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy is in its position to make up for the deficit of KEPCO, which is expected to reach 30 trillion won this year alone by raising rates.

However, the Ministry of Strategy and Finance is known to be negative about the large increase due to concerns about inflation.

The Ministry of Industry is also considering a plan to temporarily increase electricity bills for large companies that use a lot of electricity.

The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and the Ministry of Strategy and Finance are discussing not only electricity rates but also expanding the scope of gas rate hikes.
