JR East has applied to the government to introduce an "off-peak commuter pass" that will be cheaper if you avoid the morning rush hour.

The price will be reduced by about 10%, and we aim to introduce it in March next year.

The "off-peak commuter pass" that JR East has applied to the government for its introduction is about 10% cheaper than the regular commuter pass, instead of being unavailable during the 1.5 hour period during the morning rush hour.

We aim to introduce it at 278 stations on 16 lines mainly in Tokyo, such as the Yamanote Line, Keihin Tohoku Line, and Chuo Line, by March next year.

The times when you can't use it vary depending on the station you use, but it's generally between 6:00 and 9:00.

On the other hand, in line with the introduction, the price of regular commuter passes will be raised by 1.4% compared to the past, and it is assumed that the overall income and expenditure will not increase compared to now.

In addition, the commuter pass for commuting will maintain the current price.

With the introduction, the company expects that a total of 800,000 people, which is 5% of all users, will avoid the morning rush hour and commute to work in one month.

JR East says, "We would like to work on alleviating congestion by encouraging off-peak commuting."
