According to Lufthansa boss Carsten Spohr, flying should become more expensive.

“We will not go back down to the levels we saw before the pandemic,” he said at an event at the European School of Management and Technology (ESMT) in Berlin on Monday evening.

The price level - such as tickets for nine, ten or 20 euros - was too low and irresponsible, Spohr emphasized with a dig at the competition from the low-cost airlines.

"We will see very stable or maybe even rising ticket prices in the next few years." With regard to the business, Spohr confirmed that he was fundamentally confident.

However, a recession in the home market of Germany is probably unavoidable.

This dampens the purchasing power of German passengers.

The manager explained that rising prices are positive for Lufthansa and the entire industry.

Because in the Corona crisis, the margins were too small, as were the investments.

That is why higher prices for aviation are now important.

Consumers also know from other sectors that life is currently becoming more expensive overall, said the manager, with a view to the high inflation in Germany and large parts of Europe.

The increased energy costs due to the Ukraine war are a burden.

However, this applies to all airlines, so equal opportunities are guaranteed, said Spohr.
