The Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) announced yesterday the award of a contract worth 2.01 billion dirhams (548 million US dollars) to build a new main gas pipeline in the Lower Zakum field off the coast of Abu Dhabi.

The company confirmed in a statement yesterday that the contract aims to enhance efforts to raise the production capacity of gas from the "Lower Zakum" field from 430 million to 700 million standard cubic feet per day, to support ADNOC's plans to enable the UAE to achieve self-sufficiency in gas, and meet The increasing global demand for energy.

The engineering, procurement and construction contract was awarded, following a rigorous and competitive bidding process to the National Petroleum Construction Company.

The contract will contribute to redirecting more than 75% of its value to the local economy, through ADNOC's program to enhance the local added value and create new job opportunities for citizens.

The new pipeline aims to accommodate the increase in the volume of associated gas that will be produced from the Lower Zakum field, as ADNOC plans to raise the field's production capacity to more than 450,000 barrels of oil per day by 2025.

Yasser Saeed Al Mazrouei, CEO of ADNOC's Exploration, Development and Production Department, said: "This contract contributes to supporting efforts to implement ADNOC's plans to increase the production capacity of the Lower Zakum gas field, and also supports ADNOC's integrated gas plan, which aims to produce gas.
