While the price of electricity continues to rise and energy sobriety is the key word, some French people have started to save money at home, to avoid waste or lower the electricity bill.

Europe 1 reveals their tips to you.

If the French government wants to be reassuring, it places this return to school under the sign of energy sobriety.

It's a bit of the key word to avoid rationing or cuts in gas or electricity this winter.

So some French people are already starting to save money.

Nicolas checks his phone several times a day.

He is not addicted to social networks, he monitors his electricity consumption on the "Hello Watt" application.

Solar panels to halve the bill

Three years ago, he installed a smart plug on his television so he wouldn't leave it on standby at night.

And he quickly noticed significant savings.

"The connected socket saves me around 50 watt hours, so it's still €0.25 saved per day, multiplied by 365 days, that's €70. On a socket, it's really impressive “, he insists.

From now on, all of its household appliances are equipped with it.

On top of that, Nicolas only starts his washing machine in the evening.

Its heating never exceeds 20 degrees in winter.

And last May, he even installed sixteen solar panels on his roof.

Result: an invoice divided by two.

“We were at €280 in August 2021 and we are at €98 for the month of August this year”, he notes.

It remains to be seen how long this investment will pay off.

But with soaring electricity prices, six years could be enough.
