Free

Renfe transport passes

can be requested from today to start using them from next week, on September 1.

This is one of the Government's measures to help families in this context of runaway inflation and rising energy prices.

The Government calculates that these bonuses (which will allow regular users to travel for free on Cercanías, Rodalies and medium distance)

will mean a saving per family of 1,000 euros between September and December

, which is when this free period ends in principle, according to yesterday the Minister of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda, Raquel Sánchez, during her speech at the press conference after the Council of Ministers, the first to be held after the holidays.

Who can request them?

The Government approved these discounts last Monday within a package of measures to alleviate the impact of the rise in energy prices.

These free subscriptions are aimed at people who regularly use public transport, such as

workers or students

.

As explained by the Minister of Transport,

families will save in these four months between 600 euros

(in the case of Madrid or 750 euros in Barcelona), up to 1,000 euros in other large cities such as Valencia or Seville.

Savings have been calculated based on a family made up of a couple and two student children who travel in the metropolitan area of the main Spanish cities.

registry on its website

so that users of Cercanías, Media Distancia and Avant could request their multi-trip tickets, which they will be able to have as of today.
