Reassuring about Turkey's unwavering support for the Palestinian people was the main message launched on Tuesday after the meeting between Mahmoud Abbas and the Turkish president in Ankara.

Recep Tayyip Erdogan:

The advances recorded in our relations with Israel are in no way likely to affect the support we provide to the Palestinian cause.

On the contrary, and as our Palestinian brothers also express, these advances will make it possible to facilitate the resolution of the Palestinian question and the improvement of the situation of the Palestinian people.

We also follow closely the efforts of our Palestinian brothers in the search for unity and reconciliation.

We are fully prepared to support this.

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has regularly shown himself as a fervent defender of the Palestinian cause in recent years.

But the announcement of the restoration of full diplomatic relations with Israel has raised concerns in Turkey.

The members of Hamas, present on the soil of the country, could in particular pay the price.
