It was an Israeli military court that suspended the administrative detention of Khalil Awawdeh, an Islamic Jihad activist in the West Bank suspected of terrorism by Israel and who has been on a hunger strike for 168 days to protest his imprisonment without any legal process.

This decision was made due to the deteriorating health of 40-year-old Awawdeh.

A final decision expected on Sunday

His lawyer says he has no intention of putting an end to his protest movement before his full release.

He is currently in a hospital in central Israel.

On Sunday, the Israeli Supreme Court is expected to rule on his fate.

His release and that of another Islamic Jihad detainee was stipulated as part of the ceasefire agreement between Israel and the Palestinian organization following Israel's three-day offensive in the Gaza Strip. Gaza.

This truce was negotiated through Egypt, which also provided for the cessation of raids by the Israeli army in the West Bank.

A point of dispute which, according to the Israeli media, caused a breakdown in communications between Israel and Egypt.
