Borouge Petrochemical Company CEO Hazeem Sultan Al Suwaidi said that the company has contributed to the establishment of a safe and reliable infrastructure for the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant through the solutions it provides from "polyolefins" made in the UAE.

Al Suwaidi added that the materials produced by Borouge are the first in the world in their class outside North America, as they are designed in accordance with the standards of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers to be used in the manufacture of safe tubes in nuclear power plants.

He stated that in order to establish and develop the cooling system at the Barakah plant, pre-installed “polyethylene polymers” “PE100” from “Borouge” were used for the manufacture of pressure pipes by Union Pipes Manufacturing Company, which manufactures large diameter pipes.

Al-Suwaidi pointed out that pressure tubes are of great importance for the cooling system in nuclear reactors and fuel complexes, as this type of solution is of excellent specifications, which was manufactured using “Borstar” technology from Borealis from the composite polymers from which the pressure tubes are made due to its characteristics It is resistant to rust, corrosion and chemicals, as well as its ability to withstand natural disasters and industrial applications with high requirements such as withstand high levels of impact such as stress cracks.

He said that the pressure pipes were entirely produced within the UAE, which confirms Borouge's commitment to contributing to achieving economic diversification in the country, supporting industrial growth and the National Added Value Program, in addition to strengthening the UAE's position as one of the largest and most important producers of innovative, high-quality industrial solutions.

The CEO of Borouge Petrochemical Company pointed out that the company ranked first in the world in terms of selecting the materials it produces for use in many important projects such as the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant.

He also indicated that the choice of materials produced by the company will open the way for it to discover more new opportunities for the use of "polyethylene" pre-installed solutions for pipe systems in the nuclear energy sector at the regional and global levels.

clean electric energy

The Barakah plant, which was developed by the Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation, will, when fully operational, provide clean electrical energy that covers 25% of the UAE's needs.

The plant is considered the largest source of clean electric energy in the region, and once the four units in the plant are operational, it will contribute to preventing 22.4 million tons annually of carbon emissions, which are the main cause of climate change.

Barakah was designed in accordance with the regulations of the Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation and the global standards of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), and other global bodies in the field of nuclear energy.
