After tweeting about his political views, Elon Musk said in another short message that he was in the process of buying English football club Manchester United.

The richest person in the world, known for his flood of Twitter statements, did not make any further statements.

The head of the electric car company Tesla Inc. had previously emphasized in a tweet that he supported the left half of the Republican Party and the right half of the Democrats.

A case for the regulators?

In 2018, Musk came into the focus of the US Securities and Exchange Commission when he announced on Twitter that he wanted to take Tesla private.

The allegation of securities fraud was finally settled with a settlement.

In doing so, Musk agreed to a rule under which a lawyer would review all of his Tesla-related tweets.

In May, he drew criticism from regulators with a tweet declaring that his $44 billion takeover bid for Twitter Inc. "cannot go ahead."

Musk backed out from buying the company last month over doubts about the company's claims about the proportion of rogue accounts.

Twitter wants to legally force him to complete the takeover.

The recent tweet could also attract the attention of regulators.

Manchester United is listed on the New York Stock Exchange.

The club's A-shares are down 10 percent this year.

Andrew Ward, Manchester United's director of media relations and public affairs, did not promptly respond to an email seeking comment outside normal business hours.

Musk also didn't immediately respond to a Bloomberg email request.
