Elon Musk: I will buy Manchester United

Tesla CEO Elon Musk said he would buy English Premier League club Manchester United.

Billionaire Musk wrote on his Twitter account: "I will buy Manchester United."

Musk has a history of unrelated tweets, and it is not yet clear how serious he is about completing the deal, according to Reuters news agency.

United is one of the most prominent clubs in the world, winning the English Premier League 20 times as well as the European Cup/Champions League three times.

The market value of the English club is 2.08 billion pounds ($ 2.5 billion).

And recent years have witnessed protests from United fans against the Glazer family, who bought the club in 2005 for 790 million pounds ($955.51 million), because of its decline in the league.

The protests against the family gained momentum last year after United's decision to participate in the European Super League project, which collapsed days after it was announced.

Some fans had asked Musk to buy United instead of Twitter.

Musk is trying to back out of the $44 billion purchase of Twitter, which prompted the company to sue him.
