Purchase aid for electric bikes revised upwards

• Following an amendment voted as part of the amending finance bill for 2022, the State has increased the purchase aid for electric bicycles.

As part of the amending finance bill for 2022, an amendment was voted for an extension of the conditions for obtaining the “bike bonus” bonuses.

Consequences: State aid for the purchase of an electric bicycle is increased from this Monday until December 31, 2022. Additional amounts are provided for people with disabilities or low incomes, d 'after a decree published last Saturday in the Official Journal.

Who is concerned ?

According to the decree, are concerned the “purchasers of cycles” and the “professionals of the automobile and cycles”.

To put it simply, "any citizen can access it", according to Thibaut Quéré, advocacy manager at the Federation of Bicycle Users (FUB).

“Before, the application of the bicycle bonus was subject to the payment of aid from the communities, which plagued the territories which had not yet put a bicycle policy in place”, assures the manager.

Second novelty, that of the improvement of aid for households with the lowest incomes, “who have a reference income per share of less than 6,300 euros”, specifies Thibaut Quéré, as well as for people with disabilities.

If you are in this case, the aid can reach 400 euros.

Otherwise, the aid will increase from 200 to 300 euros.

Other help offered

If buying an electric bike was not in your plans, know that it will still be possible to benefit from aid for other types of bicycles.

Folding bike, cargo and even bicycle trailer: the maximum bonus will increase to 2,000 euros for low-income households and people with disabilities.

If you do not belong to this category, you will still be able to benefit from aid of 1,000 euros.

For classic bicycles

only people with low incomes and with disabilities will be able to receive assistance equivalent to 40% of the purchase price, i.e. up to 150 euros.

Finally, if they wish to get rid of a polluting vehicle to buy an electric bicycle, the conversion premium may reach 3,000 euros.

The amount will be 1,500 euros for the other beneficiaries.

Fake good news?

Even if the FUB welcomes “a good start”, Thibaut Quéré points out some shadows on the board.
