A Keidanren survey found that the average summer bonus for major companies this year was 899,163 yen per employee, an increase of more than 8% from the previous year.

It turned positive for the first time in four years in response to the recovery of corporate performance that had fallen due to the corona disaster, and it was the largest growth rate in more than 40 years.

Keidanren compiled the status of summer bonus settlements for 159 major companies with more than 500 employees, and announced the final tally on the 5th.

According to this, the average bonus per employee was 899,163 yen, an increase of 72,516 yen, or more than 8%, from the previous year.

It turned positive for the first time in four years in response to the recovery of corporate performance, which had fallen due to the corona crisis, and is the largest growth rate since 1981, when the current method of aggregation began.

By industry, 15 of the 18 industries, including "steel," "printing," and "machinery and metal," posted positive figures, greatly exceeding the seven industries of the previous year.

Shuji Nitta, head of Keidanren's Labor Policy Headquarters, said, ``In the past few years, summer bonuses have declined across the board due to the corona crisis, but this year they have suddenly reversed. I think the momentum is being maintained,” he said.
