But if the government spokesman recently invited his fellow citizens to "save energy", we are still far from the measures taken by the Pompidou government in response to the oil shock of 1973.

At the time, the incentives were more pressing: "Let's save petrol, let's save electricity, let's save heating," urged the head of state.

Before its Prime Minister introduced drastic changes: illuminated advertising prohibited from 10 p.m. to 7 a.m., end of television programs at 11 p.m. and speed limits on the entire French road network (90 km/h on the road, 120 on the highway).

And it was impossible for our compatriots at the time to "forget" these instructions, as the slogans were intended to mobilize: "In France, we don't have oil but we have ideas", "You will hunt gaspi and gasoline, gas and electricity you will save”…
