The Ministry of Economy reported that hotel establishments in the country attracted about six million visitors who spent 25 million hotel nights during the first quarter of 2022, with a growth of 10% compared to the same period in 2019, which is more than pre-pandemic rates, and the average length of stay for guests was achieved. Hotel establishments grew by 25% during the same comparison period, increasing from three to four hotel nights, and the occupancy rate of hotel establishments in the country during this period reached 80%, which is one of the highest rates in the world.

Hotel establishments achieved revenues of 11 billion dirhams during the first quarter of this year 2022, with a growth rate of 20% compared to the same period in 2019, and these establishments recorded a return to work with their full capacity of about 200,000 hotel rooms.

At the level of flights and hospitality, the number of passengers through the country’s airports reached 20 million passengers during the first quarter of 2022, compared to 8.6 million passengers recorded in the same period in 2021, an increase of 135%.

The number of transit passengers out of the total passengers through the country's airports, during the first three months of this year, amounted to about seven million, a growth of 203% compared to the same period last year.

The contribution of the travel and tourism sector to the GDP has increased by 3.4% during the past three years to reach 15%, compared to 11.6% in 2019.

These leading indicators reflect the extent of the increasing confidence in the national tourism sector and the pioneering reputation achieved by the tourism environment in the country, whether at the level of domestic tourism or by international tourists and visitors.

The UAE continues to maintain its regional and global leadership as a distinct tourist destination and a preferred place to live, work and visit, as the tourism sector, thanks to the directives of the wise leadership of the country, witnessed a qualitative leap in results and indicators that confirmed recovery from the pandemic and entering a new phase of growth and prosperity.

The domestic tourism strategy complemented and supported the national strategy for tourism development in the country, given its prominent and important role in increasing the volume of tourism investments and tourism income, which contributed to boosting the growth of the tourism sector, as the sector witnessed an increase in the share of domestic spending on domestic tourism during 2020, which amounted to 33% compared to 67% for international spending, compared to 22% in 2019 and 78% for international tourism.

In addition, tourism initiatives and programs are a major part of the implementation of the strategy of domestic tourism in the country, and the “The Most Beautiful Winter in the World” campaign comes at the top of these initiatives that have achieved great success at the level of the Emirates, becoming the largest campaign of its kind highlighting the various domestic tourism options in various regions. across the Emirates, and the second edition of the campaign, which started from mid-December 2021 until the end of January 2022, generated revenues of 1.5 billion dirhams and attracted more than 1.3 million local tourists within 45 days.

Expo 2020 Dubai is one of the country's most important initiatives that directly contributed to supplying the tourism sector with record numbers of tourists and tourism revenues, and highlighting the leadership of the travel, hotel, hospitality and entertainment sectors in the country as a sustainable tourism powerhouse and attractive to tourists. The exhibition has succeeded in attracting more than 24 million visitors in six months.

Through the legacy of "Expo", and the pioneering projects that will be completed in "Expo City Dubai", the country will host a new world-class destination for residence, business, education, innovation, and the latest model for future cities, which is scheduled to open in October 2022.

There are huge tourism projects that the UAE is implementing during the current period with the aim of promoting tourism development in the natural and distinguished destinations in the country, including the development of the areas of Hatta, Khorfakkan and Jebel Jais, in addition to many other projects in the various emirates of the country, in order to enhance the country's position on the map of global tourism and tourism Adventures and recreation.
