(China in the past ten years) Amazon global vice president: China's "cloud" shows three major trends

China News Service, Beijing, July 28 (Reporter Xia Bin) As China's new infrastructure boom surges, cloud computing, one of the representatives of new technology infrastructure, is also "blooming and bearing fruit".

Zhang Wenyi, Amazon's global vice president and executive director of Amazon Cloud Technology Greater China, said in an exclusive interview with China News Agency that in the past decade, the development of China's cloud market has shown three major trends.

First, the trend of "going to the cloud" has expanded from Internet companies to traditional industries.

"Many Internet companies are born to embrace the cloud. There is no doubt about it. It is the same in any country, including China. Internet companies are the first to 'go to the cloud'." But Zhang Wenyi also mentioned that after nearly ten years After development, many traditional industries in China, including manufacturing, retail, medical care, life sciences, etc., have also been "on the cloud".

Second, from discussing whether to "go to the cloud" to discussing how to make good use of the cloud.

Zhang Wenyi said that customers no longer wonder whether they need to "go to the cloud", but from the simple "three major items" (computing, storage, network) requirements, to starting to pay attention to how to make good use of data, how to make good use of analysis services, and how Make good use of artificial intelligence.

Digitalization has created a large amount of data. How to better discover some insights into business aspects from the data, so as to promote business development, has application requirements in all walks of life.

Third, "going to the cloud" is becoming an important means of sustainable development of enterprises.

Zhang Wenyi pointed out that "going to the cloud" itself can better improve energy efficiency and help customers optimize workloads and reduce energy consumption. From the perspective of Amazon Cloud Technology's business, it is also working with partners to launch various solutions. , carry out carbon emission management and supply chain risk management, especially its free carbon footprint tool can display the historical carbon emissions of customers in a visual way, and at the same time estimate the carbon emissions reduced by using Amazon cloud technology to replace local data centers.

"That way you have better goals, so you can make better decisions to reduce carbon emissions."

According to Zhang Wenyi, China has always been one of the most important countries in the global business layout of Amazon Cloud Technology. Since entering China in 2013, it has been committed to long-term investment and development in China.

Why are you so firmly "bullish" on the Chinese market?

Zhang Wenyi said that the main reason is that China is the fastest growing country in the world's digital economy; cloud computing, as the "technical base" of the digital economy, has huge development potential in China; the government is vigorously promoting the development of the cloud computing industry. In the "14th Five-Year Plan", cloud computing is defined as one of the seven key industries of the future digital economy. The recent launch of the "East and West" project has also brought new development opportunities to the cloud computing industry.

She specifically mentioned that China is currently the second largest public cloud market segment in the world, but for most enterprises, the journey to "going to the cloud" has just begun.

At present, China's cloud spending only accounts for 2.7% of the overall IT (Internet technology) spending, which has at least double the growth space compared to regions that entered cloud computing earlier.

International Data Corporation (IDC) predicts that from 2020 to 2025, the compound annual growth rate of China's cloud computing market will reach 32%, much higher than the global market's 22%.

It is reported that in 2021, the Amazon cloud technology Beijing area operated by Sinnet will add a third availability zone; the Ningxia area operated by NWCD is undergoing the second phase expansion. It is expected that the area of new plant facilities and the supported computing capacity will reach 1.3 times the first period.

In addition, Amazon Cloud Technology has established an artificial intelligence research institute in Shanghai and an IoT laboratory in Shenzhen and Taipei to provide more local support for artificial intelligence and IoT technology applications that Chinese companies are generally concerned about.

"When I first took over the business of Amazon Cloud Technology in China, an important strategy I formulated was to accelerate the implementation of our global cloud computing services to the Chinese region, so that Chinese customers have the opportunity to apply the most leading cloud computing services at the first time. At present, more than 90% of the core services have been implemented in our China region.” Zhang Wenyi revealed that at present, more than 200 full-featured services of Amazon Cloud Technology can meet the different needs of different customers, and they are still iterating. 2021 In 2018, Amazon Cloud Technology launched 3,084 services, which is equivalent to launching more than 8 services a day.

Talking about the field of continuous investment in China in the future, Zhang Wenyi said that he will help China cultivate future cloud computing talents.

Whether incumbents, college students, or even high school students, Amazon Cloud Technology has launched customized training programs and resources to help them learn about cloud computing.

Among them, the Amazon Cloud Technology Higher Education Project provides free support for schools in three aspects: assisting teacher training, providing teaching resources and building employment bridges, and has covered hundreds of universities across the country, including Tsinghua University, Peking University, South China University of Technology, Southeast University University, China University of Petroleum and other double first-class universities, as well as vocational colleges such as Shenzhen Information Vocational and Technical College, Changzhou Technician College, Shougang Technician College, etc., have trained hundreds of thousands of students.

Previously, Amazon Cloud Technology has made a commitment to help 29 million people around the world, including China, improve relevant technical skills by providing free cloud computing technology training by 2025.
