Will the daily ceiling for the restaurant ticket be raised from 19 euros to 25 euros?

Or its maximum value increased to 15 euros?

The debates began in the National Assembly, within the framework of the purchasing power bill.

What do the 4.8 million French people who benefit from it think?

The examination of the purchasing power bill continues in the Assembly.

And the deputies are debating the question of restaurant tickets.

4.8 million French people benefit from it.

The presidential majority wants to increase the daily ceiling to €25 instead of €19 today (it was set at €38 during the health crisis).

The opposition is rather in favor of increasing the maximum value of the restaurant ticket: from €11.38 to €15.

What do the main stakeholders think: the French and restaurateurs?

Be able to buy more products in the supermarket and use more tickets

Most of her restaurant tickets, Melvina, a young mother spends them in her supermarket in the center of Strasbourg, to do her shopping.

More right now!

“Clearly, with inflation, it helps us a lot,” she confirms.

She would like more products to be able to be purchased this way, "because there are often items that you cannot pay for with a restaurant ticket and suddenly, when you arrive at the checkout, you are told 'Oh no. , it does not pass!” So that would be cool!”, she concludes.

In the Strasbourg restaurant Le Petit Faubourg, one out of two customers pays for their lunch with restaurant vouchers.

So for Morgane, the manager, the daily ceiling should be raised, as during the health crisis, when it was at 38 euros.

"Because nowadays, a lunch formula even in a small provincial brasserie, for a starter, a main course and a dessert, we are on average between 15€ and 20€, not including coffee and perhaps a drink" , she explains.

"So if the restaurant ticket ceiling went to €22, for example, customers would take more pleasure and for us, it would be people who consume more," she says.

At the counter, Ludovic, a regular, approves.

He would also like the amount of his tickets to be increased.

"This would cover a larger part of the formula of the day," he adds.

An increase in the daily ceiling would be "more equitable"

These last two proposals are currently under consideration in the National Assembly.

The Minister of the Economy Bruno Le Maire says he is ready to raise the daily ceiling for the restaurant ticket from €19 to €25.

“This proposal is quite good: it simply consists of giving more flexibility,” says Gilbert Cette, professor of economics at NEOMA Business School.

On the other hand, he less approves of the opposition's proposal, which wishes to increase the maximum value of the restaurant ticket, from €11.38 to €15.

"It would have a cost for businesses and public authorities," he explains.

And he would not find this measure fair, "since well-off employees like those at the lowest salary levels can all benefit from restaurant tickets", he recalls.

“At a time when we all have to make an effort regarding our purchasing power, in my view there are other priorities than increasing the value of restaurant tickets,” concludes this economics professor.
