Jozef Kabaň, Head of Volkswagen Design, now looks with reverence to the Volkswagen Phaeton D2 which never went into series production: "Today this car is still very attractive, it shines with the balance of its proportions, and by a palpable class and quality that impresses.

Together with his colleagues Marco Pavone, head of exterior design, and Tomasz Bachorski, head of interior design, Kabaň is currently designing the design of future Volkswagen models.

The single copy of the Phaeton D2 had been preceded by an internal selection of four different concepts.

It was Pavone and Bachorski's project that had been selected, because it was able to convince with its sporty and refined lines, and its high-quality interior design.

Then, the pre-series concept car, based on the Modular Longitudinal Platform (MLB), was built to be submitted for Supervisory Board approval for marketing.

However, as all the forces were united to direct the Volkswagen brand towards electric mobility, the decision was made to abandon the high-end sedan project.
