The Ministry of Industry and Trade of Russia will study the issue of reducing VAT on socially significant goods

“VAT reduction is always a very sensitive issue and discussed in great detail.

It must be remembered that large retailers in our country have already limited the margin on socially significant goods within 5-10%, ”RIA Novosti quotes him.

According to him, before taking any concrete steps in this direction, we must first carefully analyze the situation. 

Evtukhov added that the feasibility of canceling the corresponding reduction in VAT will be assessed during the planned discussions between the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the Ministry of Economics and other interested departments.

The discussions will also explore the possible consequences of this decision.

“The decision to cancel VAT, of course, can be made, but first we all must clearly understand whether this will lead to price reductions or not,” the Deputy Minister emphasized.

Earlier, the chairman of the State Duma Committee on Labor, Social Policy and Veterans Affairs, Yaroslav Nilov, in an interview with RT, commented on the proposal of Deputy Oleg Matveychev to include bottled water in the list of socially significant goods.
