• If the National Assembly adopts the purchasing power bill in July, a fuel allowance could be paid to 11 million eligible French people, who drive to work, from October 1.

  • Employees, public officials, apprentices and self-employed are concerned, but only modest households.

  • According to the “premium levels”, the persons concerned will be able to receive up to 300 euros.

With its purchasing power bill, the government is trying to mitigate the effect of inflation which, for several months, has been torturing the wallets of the French.

At the end of the Council of Ministers last Thursday, the Minister of the Economy, Bruno Le Maire, announced on Europe 1 that the discount of 18 cents at the pump, in place since April 1, would eventually be replaced by a fuel allowance for workers.

Aid likely to be paid to 11 million eligible French people from October 1.

But who can benefit from it?

How ?

For what amount?

20 Minutes

tells you everything.

Who is concerned ?

In theory, only people with low incomes will be affected by this fuel allowance.

Or “11 million people”, says the government.

The condition ?

That the household is between deciles 1 to 5*, i.e. with less than 14,100 euros of reference tax income per unit (RFR).

"Discussions are underway to extend eligibility to deciles 6 and 7, with opposition," reports Bruno Le Maire's cabinet at

.

A system deplored by the association 40 million motorists.

“We should lower the price at the pump, and not pay premiums.

If we come to do this, it is because there are tax problems on fuel, “annoys Pierre Chasseray, its general delegate.

All workers are concerned, ie employees and public officials as well as apprentices and the self-employed.

Last Sunday, Bruno Le Maire opened the door to broader targeting: "A woman who is alone with two children, who receives 3,000 euros in income per month, (…) must be entitled to this aid", he said. affirmed, on LCI, by way of example.

Another case: "A couple who have two children and each of whom earns 1,800 euros, or 3,600 euros with two children, is already a level of income which is significant but not very high, it is the middle class: this family- there must be entitled to this indemnity”.

How much will be paid?

Aid will be modulated.

The first level of premium is 200 euros.

It may be granted to motorists located between deciles 1 and 3 (an RFR of less than 9,400 euros) Among them, "big riders" - people who live more than 30 km from their place of work or who drive more than 12,000 km per year in the professional context – will be able to receive 100 euros more.

The second level of bonus (for deciles 4 and 5) allows you to benefit from 100 euros.

This time, the bonus for “big rollers” is 50 euros.

According to the government, “a fuel allowance of 200 euros represents the equivalent of a discount of around 25 euro cents/litre per year, for a vehicle and average use”.

How to request it?

You are eligible ?

If the bill is adopted, you will have to go to the site of the General Directorate of Public Finance (where you declare your income and pay your taxes) and ask for help online.

To justify the collection of the premium, it will be necessary, among other things, to declare on honor your place of residence and work.

It will also be possible to include links that refer to a "technical inspection of the vehicle", according to the cabinet of Bruno Le Maire.

Also last Sunday, the Minister said: "The Directorate General of Public Finance, at my request, will send text messages, emails to people who are entitled to this allowance".

The premium will be collected by bank transfer.

On the deadline side, it will take a week after the finalization of the procedures to be credited, assures the firm.
