Cooperation between the UAE and UNIDO to develop a competitive industrial performance index

The Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology, Dr. Sultan bin Ahmed Al-Jaber, discussed with the Director-General of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), Gerd Muller, strengthening cooperation between the ministry and the organization to develop a competitive industrial performance index, in line with the ministry’s objectives and the international plans currently implemented by the organization. And in line with the goals of the World Summit on Industry and Industrialization, a joint initiative between the Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology and the United Nations Industrial Development Organization.

Al-Jaber met, via visual communication technology, the Director-General of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization, in the presence of the country's ambassador to the Federal Republic of Austria, Hamad Al-Kaabi, and the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology, Omar Ahmed Suwain' Al-Suwaidi, where the importance of forming a working group to enhance cooperation between the ministry was emphasized. And the organization, in order to advance the ninth goal of the United Nations sustainable development goals, which is related to industry, innovation, the development of sustainable infrastructure, the international promotion of comprehensive and sustainable industrial transformation, and the most prominent techniques for reducing the carbon footprint in the industrial sector.

The meeting comes within the plans of the Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology to enhance the capacity and competitiveness of the industrial sector, and to consolidate relations with relevant regional and international institutions, in implementation of the objectives of the national strategy for industry and advanced technology.

The meeting witnessed a discussion of enhancing productive competitiveness, exchanging industrial information to serve the global value chain, stimulating investment in research and development, and supporting diversification of industries using advanced technology.

The meeting also touched on the participation and support of the UAE in the “Hydrogen Day in Industry” event planned at the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP27) in the Arab Republic of Egypt, in addition to forming a working group to create a road map to enhance coordination on areas of cooperation in the 28th session From the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28), which will be held next year in the UAE at Expo Dubai, which is considered the most important and largest international conference on climate action with the participation of world leaders and leaders.

The UAE's hosting of COP28 is of particular importance, as this event is an international platform that aims to reach practical solutions to reduce the repercussions of climate change and take into account the interests of all.

Choosing the UAE to host the conference represents an appreciation from the international community for the country's efforts and the active role it plays in climate action, environmental protection and capacity building in the field of clean and renewable energy.
