As recalled by the agency, Algerian gas exports to Spain declined in June due to diplomatic tensions that arose against the backdrop of Madrid's support for Morocco's initiative to resolve disputes in Western Sahara.

Thus, imports of Russian gas in June reached 8.7 thousand gigawatts / hour, thus doubling since May, which is about 24% of Spain's total gas needs.

Algeria accounts for 22%, while the United States remains the main supplier of gas to Spain: they export 30% of gas to the European country.

In March, the Algerian Foreign Ministry recalled its ambassador to Madrid for consultations after the Spanish authorities spoke out in support of Morocco's proposal to grant autonomy to Western Sahara.

In June, the Algerian authorities decided to suspend the Treaty of Friendship and Good Neighborliness with Spain.

At the same time, Algeria is ready to send excess gas to Italy, and she, in turn, will be able to transfer it to other European countries.
