Together with Hyundai, TomTom, ANWB, Inrix and Be-Mobile, Kia is studying the possibility of warning drivers in the event of an approaching emergency vehicle.

When they hear the sirens, drivers don't always know if the emergency vehicle is approaching or moving away.

The new alert system will let them know what type of vehicle it is and in which direction it is heading.

Kia is also looking to develop alerts for other types of hazards, including unexpected and potentially risky situations.

For example, motorists could be warned of oncoming traffic, closed traffic lanes and upcoming traffic jams.

These alerts will be in addition to those already provided by infotainment systems in the form of audible, visual and haptic warnings, and will require no intervention from the driver, allowing them to keep their hands on the wheel.

The Safety Priority Services project will be spread over 3 years, in preparation for the obligation to share data relating to alerts, which will be provided for by new European regulations from 2025.
