The use of our restaurant vouchers is no longer set at a maximum of 38 euros per day.

Since this Friday, it has gone back to 19 euros daily.

It had been increased in June 2020 in the context of the Covid-19 crisis.

This is difficult news for employees, but also for restaurateurs.

Lots of changes on July 1st, especially in our wallets.

The use of our restaurant vouchers, for example, is no longer fixed at a maximum of 38 euros per day, it has gone back to 19 euros daily.

It had been increased in June 2020 in the context of the Covid-19 crisis.

This is difficult news for employees, but also for restaurateurs.

Europe 1 went to a restaurant in Paris and was able to see the bitterness of the customers, and the restaurateur.

“They will spend less”

At the counter, Pierre comes to pay for his Milanese escalope and his beer, or 25 euros in a restaurant ticket.

Vianney, the restaurant manager, is sorry, but he can no longer accept it.

He struggles to hide his annoyance.

"People have less consumption, so they will spend less," he says.

From the group of young people huddled together on the terrace to the two engineers seated inside, everyone pulls out their restaurant vouchers when paying.

60 to 70% of Vianney's customers are directly affected by this new ceiling.

"With 38 euros in restaurant tickets, they can have a starter, a main course, an aperitif and then a little wine. With 19 euros, what can [the customer] do? A main course with a coffee?” he laments.

Inflation: will the ceiling for restaurant tickets have to be increased?

Consume less, or pay more

A dish, a coffee, but probably no more dessert or appetizer for Claire who has lunch every day downstairs from her office, in a bistro where she has her habits.

"There you see, today I had it for 22.40 euros, and finally with the new ceiling, it will not pass", she shows.

"I should be more careful, or take out my personal credit card more often."

Pierre, with whom she has just had lunch, sees only one solution, "that the maximum number of boxes increases the amount of restaurant tickets as much as possible".

In the meantime, the French will have to deal with this new ceiling, while facing rising prices.
