From September, local health insurance premiums will be reduced by an average of 36,000 won per month.

<Reporter> The

total number of health insurance subscribers in Korea is 51.41 million.

Employers, who account for 38% of the total, have inherited health insurance premiums based on the premium rate only on their income.

On the other hand, local subscribers, who account for 27%, pay premiums not only on income but also on property and automobiles by grade.

Because the method was different, the issue of equity arose, and the ruling and opposition parties reached an agreement five years ago to reduce the burden on local subscribers.

First of all, starting in September, 50 million won will be deducted based on the property insurance premium.

37% of local residents who pay property insurance premiums will be exempted from property insurance premiums in the future.

The standard for car insurance premiums will also change to more than 40 million won in the value of the vehicle.

The number of vehicles subject to insurance premiums will be drastically reduced from 1.79 million to 120,000.

In the future, a flat rate system in which income is multiplied by a set premium rate and 6.99% as of this year will be applied to local subscribers as in the case of workplace subscribers.

Residential households with an annual income of 38.6 million won or less will have a lower income insurance premium burden.
