At the inaugural press conference held in Osaka City on the 28th, Kansai Electric Power Co., Inc.'s new president, Nozomi Mori, called on companies and households to cooperate in saving electricity for this summer without setting numerical targets.

This is the first request for power saving in seven years since 2015, in light of the rising demand for electricity due to the resumption of economic activities and the tight supply and demand due to the delay in restarting nuclear power plants.

Regarding the power supply and demand of this summer in the area including Kansai, the "reserve ratio", which is considered to be the reserve capacity for the power demand at the peak time assuming the heat wave, was initially 3.8% in July, and it will be a stable supply. It was above the required 3%.

However, the reserve margin is expected to drop to about 3% due to the delay in the resumption of operation of Oi Nuclear Power Station Unit 4, which is undergoing regular inspections, in addition to the increase in demand due to the resumption of economic activities. I am.

If we do not receive power interchange from other areas, we expect that the reserve margin for next month will be minus 3.9% in the Kansai area alone.

In light of these circumstances, Shin Mori said at an inaugural meeting held on the evening of the 28th, "Although the minimum reserve ratio required for stable supply is exceeded, it is predicted in light of the unexpected increase in electricity demand and fuel procurement risk. It is a situation that does not allow for this, "he said, and expressed his intention to request power saving for the first time in seven years since 2015.

On top of that, President Mori said, "I'm sorry, but I'd like to ask you to save electricity within a reasonable range," and called on companies and households to save electricity as much as possible.

To give unique points to households that cooperate in saving electricity

In the Kansai area as well, there are concerns about the tight supply and demand of electricity, and Kansai Electric Power will start an initiative to give points to households that cooperated in saving electricity from July 1.

This initiative was started by Kansai Electric Power as an original campaign, and points are awarded according to the "power saving amount" obtained by subtracting the actual usage amount from the standard usage amount in the past.

This means that the company will invite pre-registered users to participate in the campaign in advance, such as during times when the supply and demand of electricity is tight.

The point is that 5 yen is given per 1kWh and can be used for payment of electricity charges.
