Federal Transport Minister Volker Wissing (FDP) rules out an extension of the 9-euro ticket.

"It's not possible in the long term.

Because the ticket costs over a billion euros a month," Wissing said on Thursday on RTL/ntv's "Frühstart" program.

The reduced ticket for local public transport for nine euros a month was introduced at the beginning of June and should be available for three months.

Wissing expressed his satisfaction that the ticket was well received.

"Many federal states didn't want the ticket at all, and now they don't want to get rid of it anymore," said the minister.

Now you have to evaluate the temporary measure and then discuss with the countries how to improve the bus and train service.

The offer for nine euros is still available until August.

Until then, citizens can continue to use local transport for nine euros a month.

Greens and SPD in particular demanded a cheap successor offer.
