The Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries has summarized the results of verification of possible risks in the future, saying that concerns about food security are increasing due to the spread of the new corona infection and Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

On the 21st, the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries held a study group on food security, identified risks that may affect the stable supply of food, and summarized the verification results.

Among these, the “significant risk” was the soaring prices of wheat, soybeans, and corn for feeding.

Grain prices are rising as the situation in Ukraine becomes tense, with risks becoming apparent, especially for feed grains, which have a high proportion of imports.

In addition, wheat, soybeans, and rapeseed are said to have a large impact when prices soar.

On the other hand, among the crops produced in Japan, labor-intensive vegetables and fruits, livestock products and marine products are "prone to" problems of labor shortage and successor shortage, and the impact is large.

He also points out that fertilizer is an "important risk" because it depends on imports for raw materials and the situation is becoming more unstable due to the situation in Ukraine.

Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Kaneko, who attended the meeting, said, "It is necessary to consider necessary measures with a sense of crisis in order to strengthen Japan's food security."
