Reem Al Hashemi: “Expo City Dubai” is a destination for science and education

Reem Al Hashimi: "Expo City Dubai will remain an urban neighborhood with the pulse of architecture, culture and arts."

In a speech yesterday before the 170th session of the General Assembly of the International Bureau of Exhibitions, Reem Al Hashemi, Minister of State for International Cooperation and Director General of Expo 2020 Dubai, said: “We welcomed the world with the spirit of true Emirati hospitality, in a society that opens its arms to everyone who answers our invitation.

(Expo 2020 Dubai) gave the countries of the world the opportunity to share their unique visions in a fruitful global dialogue by harnessing an independent pavilion for each country and creating a platform for international cooperation.

She added, "We have created a city and a society that seeks to achieve human dignity and aspires to further progress and prosperity, a society with a unique culture and a futuristic spirit that Expo 2020 Dubai was only the beginning."

And she continued, "It is true that Expo 2020 Dubai closed its doors, but the doors of Expo Dubai will remain open.

Dubai Expo City has become a destination for science and education, which will make it a vivid example of innovative urban areas incubating efforts for cooperation, knowledge exchange and future talent industry.

The city's exceptional infrastructure benefits will be harnessed to generate economic value locally and globally as a clean and green technology hub.

The city will also be based on the foundations of the Virtual Expo and our presence in the world of (Metaverse), and the pioneering technological developments will be seized to create a unique space in a digital world whose horizons are expanding day by day.”

She indicated that «the city will maintain the commitments of shared environmental responsibility, which served as a moral compass in the construction phase and during the establishment of the global event.

Thus, the city will continue its journey towards carbon neutrality by 2030, in testimony to the relentless pursuit of our country’s strategic initiative for climate neutrality by 2050. Having become a destination for more than 24 million visitors in the past months, Expo Dubai will remain an urban neighborhood with the pulse of architecture, culture and the arts. And a destination for responsible and effective individuals from different walks of life.”

She said: “Dubai, home to 200 nationalities, has always been a leading destination for addressing global issues and offering valuable and diverse perspectives.

At the Expo, we welcomed all peoples and witnessed their aspiration to make positive change, as well as their desire to be part of that change, and we saw their individual and collective desire to achieve it.”

She pointed out that “through more than 35,000 events, and with the help of 30,000 dedicated volunteers from 135 countries, we were able to make the purpose of this global event a reality thanks to the BIE, the Secretary-General and his team, a goal represented in highlighting, celebrating and promoting continuous human progress.

And we achieved this by working together, in light of a global pandemic, and in the most difficult times, we brought out the best in ourselves and shared it with 24.1 million visitors who came to us and a quarter of a billion visitors who shared this journey with us through the Internet and the virtual world.”
