China New Observation | Where did the lost population in the Northeast go?

Zhongxin Finance, June 19 (Reporter Li Jinlei) Changes in population data may subvert the cognition of many people.

The population loss in the Northeast is an indisputable fact.

According to the seventh national census, the population of Northeast China has decreased by 11.01 million in 10 years.

So, where did the lost population in the Northeast go?

Did the Northeasterners really "encircle" Hainan and make Hainan the "fourth province in the Northeast"?

The top three provinces with the most people in Northeast China are Shandong, Beijing, and Hebei.

Data show that in 2020, the total population of the three northeastern provinces will be 98.51 million, nearly 100 million people. The scale is still large, but it is 11.01 million fewer than ten years ago.

Among them, Heilongjiang lost more than 6.46 million people, which is the province with the largest population loss.

  Where have these Northeasterners gone?

"China Census Yearbook-2020" can give the answer.

According to the table "Population with household registration in other provinces by current residence and gender", the top three provinces with the largest household registration in Jilin, Liaoning and Heilongjiang are Shandong, Beijing and Hebei.

Among them, in Shandong, the population of household registration in Liaoning is 174,663, the household registration in Jilin is 344,030, and the household registration in Heilongjiang is 631,631, a total of 1,150,324 people.

That is to say, in Shandong, the population with household registration in the northeast exceeds 1.15 million.

In Beijing, 370,648 people are registered in Liaoning, 284,376 are registered in Jilin, and 455,150 are registered in Heilongjiang, totaling 1,110,174.

That is to say, in Beijing, the population with household registration in the northeast exceeds 1.11 million.

In Hebei, there are 168,371 people in Liaoning, 156,219 in Jilin, and 337,060 in Heilongjiang, totaling 661,650.

That is to say, in Hebei, the population with household registration in the northeast exceeds 660,000.

It can be seen that the population of Northeast China living in Shandong and Beijing is more than 1 million, which are the two main destinations for Northeast population outflow.

Feng Wenmeng, director of the Research Office of the Public Administration and Human Resources Research Institute of the Development Research Center of the State Council, analyzed the "China New Observation" column of China News Service. In recent years, the population outflow in Northeast China has been relatively serious, local climate factors, economic growth and employment in recent years. Such problems have led to the exodus of a large number of young people.

A large number of people from the Northeast flow to Shandong and Beijing because the economic development situation of Shandong and Beijing is relatively good, there are diversified development opportunities and employment prospects, and the geographical location of the Northeast is relatively close.

Feng Wenmeng said that population flow should take into account the level of economic development, geographical factors, migration costs, interpersonal relationships, etc. Therefore, if the flow of people into the nearby area can solve the employment problem, the flow of population to the nearby area will be relatively more, and the reason why Shandong flows into the Northeast On the one hand, Shandong is the third largest economic province. On the other hand, the two places are closely related in history. Historically, Shandong has "crossed the border east", and a large number of people from Shandong have migrated to the northeast. There are more population exchanges between the two places. Backflow is not difficult to understand.

Are the Northeasterners really "surrounding" Hainan?

The most foreigners in Hainan are Cantonese

For a long time, many people have the impression that there are many Northeasterners in Hainan, and some even call Hainan the "fourth province of Northeast China".

So, are the Northeasterners really "surrounding" Hainan?

The data shows that in Hainan, the population of household registration in Liaoning is 20,362, the household registration in Jilin is 25,301, and the household registration in Heilongjiang is 55,006, a total of 100,669 people, or 100,000 people.

The largest number of foreigners in Hainan are from Guangdong, with 138,295 people.

That is to say, in Hainan, the population of the three northeastern provinces with household registration is not as large as that of Guangdong.

The total population of Hainan Province's household registration in other provinces is 1,088,143, and the proportion of the three northeastern provinces is only 9.25%.

So, why is there still a feeling that people from the Northeast are all over Hainan?

Of course, it should be noted that the statistics here are only the permanent residents of Hainan whose household registration places are in the three northeastern provinces, and those who have settled in Hainan and whose native place is the northeast are not included.

Feng Wenmeng believes that the largest number of foreigners in Hainan is from Guangdong, because the two places are close to each other, and the flow of people is relatively convenient.

In the Hainan area, Northeasterners are easy to be identified because of their language and accent characteristics, coupled with differences in living habits, diet, etc., further gathering of Northeasterners will form a relatively obvious sign of existence.

The unique regional and cultural characteristics make the Northeast people have a great sense of existence, creating the impression that people in the Northeast are everywhere.

Feng Wenmeng said that in addition, there is another factor, that is, the winter in the Northeast is very cold. Many Northeasterners go to Hainan for the winter and belong to the "migratory birds" that come in winter. Such people have not lived for more than 6 months and will not be regarded as "migratory birds". The resident population is counted.
