(In the past ten years in China) China's desertified land area has decreased by more than 64.9 million mu in the past ten years

China News Service, Beijing, June 17 (Reporter Chen Su) June 17 this year is the 28th World Day for Combating Desertification and Drought. China's theme is "Jointly Combat Desertification and Build a Community of Shared Future".

On the same day, the reporter learned from the State Forestry and Grassland Administration of China (National Forestry and Grassland Administration) that in the past ten years, the area of desertified land in China has decreased by more than 64.9 million mu.

According to the statistics of the State Forestry and Grassland Administration, in the past ten years, China has completed a total of 282 million mu of desertification prevention and control tasks, closed and protected 26.58 million mu of desertified land, more than half of the country's controllable desertified land has been treated, and the national desertified land area has decreased by more than 64.9 million mu , the ecological environment of the sandy area has been significantly improved, and the historic transition from "sand entering and people retreating" to "green entering the sand and retreating" has been realized.

In recent years, China has implemented a series of major projects, and gradually established a green ecological barrier along the northern sandstorm line. The Beijing-Tianjin sandstorm source control project has been implemented for more than 20 years and has completed afforestation of 9.029 million hectares. The forest area is 30.14 million hectares.

Key treatment areas such as the three major sandy lands of Maowusu, Hunshandake and Horqin, and the Kubuqi Desert have been transformed from "barren land" to "oasis on top".

In the past five years, the sand and dust weather has been significantly reduced, and it has decreased by 31% compared with the "Eleventh Five-Year" period (2006 to 2010).

On the basis of strict protection and governance, China actively promotes the development of the sand industry, and takes advantage of the abundant resources such as light, heat, species, and land in sandy areas to moderately develop shrub and grass fodder, Chinese medicinal materials, economic forest and fruit, desert tourism, wind power photovoltaic, biomass energy industries.

According to statistics, the annual output of dry and fresh fruit in the sandy area is 48 million tons, accounting for about 1/4 of the country's total output, with an annual output value of 120 billion yuan. The income of forest fruits in key areas accounts for more than 50% of the net income of farmers.

The relevant person in charge of the State Forestry and Grassland Administration said that China actively fulfills the obligations of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification, conducts exchanges and cooperation with countries along the “Belt and Road”, establishes an international knowledge management center for desertification control, and contributes Chinese experience and Chinese solutions to global desertification control.

In the next step, China will coordinate and promote the integrated protection and restoration of mountains, rivers, forests, fields, lakes, grass and sand, strengthen the construction of desertified land closure reserves and national desert parks, establish and improve the compensation system for desert ecological protection, and formulate and issue the National Plan for Sand Prevention and Control. Develop sand industry.

By 2025, the closed and protected area of desertified land will reach 30 million mu, the newly added area of desertified land will be 100 million mu, and the new area of comprehensive treatment of rocky desertification will be 19.5 million mu.
