As the meteorological drought continues across the country, with the cumulative precipitation of 199.7 mm across the country for the past six months, only 57.3% of the normal year, the government announced the June drought forecast and warning today (14th).

According to the government, the average water storage rate of agricultural reservoirs is 53.4%, which is 89.6% of the normal level, and droughts in the fields are continuing in some areas.

The government explained that the drought had been relieved to a large extent due to the rains that fell on the last 4-8 days, but the government explains that water supply measures are needed in some shallow paddy fields and island areas and in the midwest where less than 10 millimeters of rain has fallen.

The government expects that precipitation will be generally similar to the average until August, and the weather drought will gradually ease from the end of June and most will be resolved in July.

In some islands and mountainous areas, emergency water supply is provided due to regional characteristics, the government added, while water for living and industrial use is being maintained normally.

The government announced that it is providing emergency support to local governments with 9.7 billion won in drought countermeasure expenses from the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs and 4.4 billion won in special grant tax for disaster safety management from the Ministry of the Interior and Safety to minimize drought damage as a water supply measure.
