It was in a tweet accompanied by the poster of the film which notably features the

character of Buzz Lightyear

that the news was announced.

According to the Media Regulatory Bureau, an agency under the UAE Ministry of Culture and Youth, the animated film

Buzz Lightyear

"

violates standards related to media content in force in the country

 ".

Even if the targeted scene(s) have not been mentioned, this feature film will therefore not be shown in United Arab Emirates screening rooms from Thursday, June 16, as was supposed to be the case.

An online campaign against the film

Last weekend, a campaign calling for a ban on the screening of the film in the Emirates had sprung up on social media.

Internet users then denounced a kissing scene between two women.

They considered this scene contrary to their culture and their religion.

At the end of 2021, the authorities of the United Arab Emirates announced that they would

end censorship of films

.

A new category “

prohibited to those under 21

” had thus been created.
