The completion rate of the water reservoir project implemented by the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority “DEWA” in the Hatta region, has reached 36.25% of the total project, compared to the 32.6% targeted according to the approved project schedule.

The project has a capacity of 30 million gallons, at a cost of approximately 86 million dirhams. The project started on April 7, 2021 and is expected to be completed in April of next year.

The project includes the construction of two reservoirs with a storage capacity of 30 million gallons of desalinated water, the construction of supporting buildings: (a sub-station building, an operations building, a building for supplies, a building for storing chemicals, a chlorine dioxide generation building), and the extension of inlet and outlet pipes.

The structural foundation works for all buildings and tanks are 100% complete, while the above-ground works are 27% complete, and 35% of the pipes have been laid.

He pointed out that the authority's production capacity is currently 490 million gallons of desalinated water per day, at a time when the authority is also implementing in the "Hatta region" the hydroelectric station, which is the first of its kind in the Arab Gulf region, with investments estimated at one billion and 421 million dirhams, to reach the production capacity of the station. to 250 megawatts with a storage capacity of 1500 megawatt hours.

Al Tayer continued: “The project comes as part of DEWA’s efforts to increase the storage capacity of the Emirate of Dubai to reach 7,212 million gallons in 2025, compared to the current capacity of 822 million gallons, at a time when the Authority is working to improve the efficiency and reliability of water networks, and raise the quantities of water flow to meet growth. The accelerating demand for water in various regions of Dubai, and the increase in the water reserve in Dubai, which contributes to promoting the process of sustainable development.”

Al Tayer stated that the authority is currently working on the implementation of two other pioneering projects in Hatta, namely the Dubai Mountain Summit and the Hatta Sustainable Waterfalls.
