The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications has given KDDI administrative guidance for improvement, saying that the development of base stations for the high-speed, large-capacity communication standard "5G" has been delayed.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications considers that "5G" will be an important infrastructure for the future economy and society and people's lives, and is requesting mobile phone companies to develop base stations as planned.

When we requested reports from each company regarding the maintenance status of base stations as of the end of March, we found that KDDI was delayed in maintenance.

Specifically, compared to the plan submitted in advance, only 62% of base stations dedicated to "5G" and 48% of base stations that divert 4G frequencies to "5G" could be opened.

For this reason, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications provided administrative guidance to KDDI on the 13th.

We are requesting that the base stations that were supposed to be maintained during the last fiscal year be completed by September.

The company explained that the reason was that the delivery date of the equipment was delayed due to the shortage of semiconductors, and the contract with the contractor who builds the base station was difficult due to the influence of the new corona.

Under administrative guidance, KDDI commented, "We will take the content seriously and review and strengthen the system to ensure that the plan is implemented."

On the other hand, there was no delay in the maintenance status of other mobile phone companies.
