Chancellor Olaf Scholz has expressed confidence in the effects of the western sanctions against Moscow.

"The oil embargo will hit Russia hard," Scholz said at the East German Economic Forum in Bad Saarow.

In Germany, care must be taken to ensure that the east does not suffer unilaterally from the consequences of the embargo: "We must not see any massive regional price differences at the gas stations."

Scholz acknowledged that in the past it had made Germany too dependent on Russian energy supplies.

The assumption that Russia will also deliver reliably in times of political tension has proven to be incorrect.

"Think big!"

In the Chancellor's opinion, eastern Germany has good prospects for reindustrialisation.

More recently, international companies such as Tesla and Intel have decided to settle here.

The east is now one of the most attractive regions in Europe, emphasized Scholz, who cited the large number of areas suitable for important industrial settlements as reasons in addition to the infrastructure.

"Think big!" Scholz called out to the participants of the East German Economic Forum.

In order to overcome the lack of skilled workers, which is not least caused by demographics, foreign job seekers must, among other things, move in.

By the end of the decade, 7 million skilled workers would retire across Germany.

Just as with the inevitable expansion of renewable energies, the population must also accept the influx of workers.

“Those who go after political votes with dull slogans are doing the East a disservice,” said Scholz.
