Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has confirmed that it is working to increase the storage capacity of desalinated water in Dubai, as part of its efforts to enhance water security.

She added that to achieve this goal, it is implementing three projects to construct water tanks in various parts of the Emirate of Dubai, with a total capacity of 210 million gallons, and investments of nearly 550 million dirhams.

The authority detailed that one of these projects is located in the “Al-Nakhali” area, with a capacity of 120 million gallons, and investments amounting to 287.8 million dirhams, and the second in the “Al-Lisaili” area with a capacity of 60 million gallons, and investments amounting to 175.4 million dirhams, in addition to a reservoir in the “Hatta” area with a capacity of 30 Million gallons and investments of 86 million dirhams.

He added: “The Water Security Strategy 2036 aims to ensure the sustainability and continuity of access to water during natural and emergency conditions, and addresses future water security challenges in the long term. The Integrated Water Resources Management Strategy in Dubai 2030 focuses on enhancing water resources, and using the latest technologies and innovative solutions.” ».

He stressed that the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority is working to provide an advanced and integrated infrastructure for electricity and water, to provide our services according to the highest standards of availability, reliability, efficiency and quality, pointing out that the construction of water tanks in the areas of “Al Nakhali”, “Al Lisaili” and “Hatta” with a total of 210 million gallons. It comes within the framework of the authority's strategy, to raise the efficiency and reliability of water networks, increase the quantities of water flow, and increase the reserve stock, to meet the increasing demand and keep pace with the needs of sustainable development in Dubai.

"We aim to increase the storage capacity of the Emirate of Dubai to reach 1,002 million gallons compared to the current capacity of 815 million gallons," he said.

Al Tayer pointed out that these tanks are added to the project to store and retrieve desalinated water in the groundwater basins, which the authority has completed its first phase, and when completed by 2025, it will allow storage of 6000 million gallons, and their recovery when needed, making it the largest of its kind in the world to store water Drinking and provision in emergencies.

Al Tayer continued, "Thanks to its advanced infrastructure, innovation and sound scientific planning, DEWA keeps pace with the increase in water demand in accordance with the highest standards of availability, reliability and efficiency."

He pointed out that the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority's production capacity of desalinated water in 1992 was 65 million gallons per day, today it is 490 million gallons of desalinated water per day, stressing that DEWA's efforts have contributed to research and development and the adoption of the latest international technologies, in reducing the percentage of waste in Water transmission and distribution networks increased from more than 42% in 1988 to 5.3% last year, which is one of the lowest rates recorded in the world.

For his part, the Executive Vice President of the Water and Civil Engineering Sector at DEWA, ​​Eng. Abdullah Obaidullah, said that the water tanks implemented by DEWA adopt the highest international standards, pointing out that the water tank in the Al Lisaili area with a capacity of 60 million gallons is being constructed using concrete. armed forces, in addition to the existing tank, which has a storage capacity of 120 million gallons of desalinated water.
