<Anchor> The

Cargo Regiment announced that they would go on an indefinite strike from 0 am on the 7th, about 4 hours later.

Truck drivers are insisting that the safe fare system, which is due to end at the end of this year, should continue.

Reporter Kim Jung-woo explains the reason in detail.

<Reporter> The

reason truck drivers went on a general strike is to keep the safe fare system.

The safe fare system is a system that guarantees minimum freight rates to freight owners or transport operators, and imposes fines on shippers who do not comply with these requirements.

That's the minimum wage for truck drivers.

However, this system will only be implemented for three years from 2020 and will be abolished at the end of this year.

This is the so-called sunset festival.

Truck drivers claim that if the safe fare system is abolished, they will have no choice but to drive unreasonably again.

[Yang Kyung-soo/Chairman of the Korean Federation of Trade Unions: It is no different than a declaration to give up safety any longer.

It is a decision of death that drives freight workers to over-load, over-speed, and overwork again.]

Soaring oil prices are also the reason for the strike.

In the case of the safety fare system, the fares of truck drivers do not decrease even if the oil price rises because it is linked to fuel costs.

Therefore, the Cargo Solidarity is demanding that the safety fare currently applied only to import/export containers and cement vehicles be expanded to all vehicle types.

The government said it was communicating with the Cargo Solidarity and was planning to create a dedicated organization to discuss the requirements, but said that it would take strong action if illegal activities occur.

[Han Deok-soo/Prime Minister: If you force a refusal to transport, you cannot avoid logistical setbacks.

We will take strict action against illegal acts that obstruct transportation in accordance with laws and principles.] It

seems difficult for truck drivers to narrow their differences with the government right now as it is a matter of survival at stake.

The Cargo Solidarity plans to hold a general strike launch ceremony at 10 a.m. tomorrow.
