Sales of five major department stores in May were all significantly higher than in the same month last year.

For the first time after the spread of the new coronavirus infection, it was a long holiday with no restrictions on behavior, and the main reason was that the number of customers visiting the store increased.

Five major department stores announced preliminary sales figures for May on June 1st.

According to this, ▽ Hankyu Hanshin Department Store has tripled

compared to the same month last year .

In addition,

▽ Daimaru Matsuzakaya Department Store was 89.2%,

▽ Mitsukoshi Isetan Holdings was 64.3%,

▽ Takashimaya was 63.3%, and

▽ Sogo & Seibu was 33.6%,

all of which increased significantly.

This is a reaction to the fact that an "emergency declaration" was issued last year, mainly in urban areas such as Tokyo, and business restrictions were imposed. The main reason is that the number of customers visiting the store has increased.

Sales of high-priced items such as paintings and jewelry were strong, and sales of women's clothing blouses and dresses also increased due to increased opportunities to go out.

As a whole, each company has not reached the level before Corona in comparison with 3 years ago before the spread of infection and May 2019.

However, some stores are outperforming, and each company wants to recover its business performance toward the summer.
