The first domestic maglev sky rail train "Xingguo" is expected to open to traffic in July

With a gust of wind, a red and white maglev sky rail train flashed by on the Xingguo permanent magnet maglev technology engineering test line. When people realized that, the train had long gone.

This mysterious "sky train" is the first maglev sky rail train in China - "Xingguo".

According to reports, the train was jointly developed by Jiangxi University of Science and Technology and China Railway Science and Industry Group. It has now entered the critical stage of vehicle commissioning. After the vehicle commissioning is completed, it is expected to officially enter the experimental stage of opening to traffic in July 2022.

How is it different from the traditional "Maglev" and "Empty Rail"

The "Xingguo" maglev sky rail train adopts a suspended monorail structure with a design speed of 80 kilometers per hour.

In terms of lines, the main line of the test line has a total length of about 0.8km, all of which are elevated lines, adopting a single-line design, and reserve two-line conditions and long-term operating conditions.

In addition, the project adopts the EPC (design, procurement, construction integration) model, which gives full play to the leading role of design in the entire project construction process.

On May 31, Yang Bin, Secretary of the Party Committee of Jiangxi University of Science and Technology, introduced in an interview with a reporter from Science and Technology Daily that at present, the domestic sky rail projects under construction all use wheeled sky rail trains. Compared with traditional wheeled sky rail trains, permanent magnet suspension trains do not need Relying on rubber wheels to drive, the permanent magnet repels the track and maintains a suspended state in the centerline of the notch, and the electromagnetic guidance can achieve zero-friction operation, which only needs to be driven by a motor.

The permanent magnetic levitation air rail has the characteristics of non-contact and levitation operation, stronger climbing ability, small turning radius, low noise and more energy saving and environmental protection. With the characteristics of "zero power" suspension, the advantages of no magnetic pollution are obvious.

These characteristics make the permanent magnetic levitation air rail not only suitable for conventional environments such as cities and scenic spots, but also suitable for difficult geographical environments such as rivers, high cold, and deserts, and can complement each other with subways and light rails.

What technical difficulties has the maglev space track overcome?

Wang Zhongmei, chief technician of China Railway Science and Industry Group, introduced that China is the third country after Germany and Japan to master air rail technology. Air rail occupies less land, has a wide field of vision, does not interfere with pedestrians and motor vehicles, and has independent right of way. The volume of a single trip is about half that of the subway, but the construction cost is only one-fifth of the subway.

According to Yang Bin, the existing air rail trains use electric drive tires to walk in the track beam, while the "Xingguo" is a new type of suspended maglev vehicle. Its biggest feature is the application of permanent magnet suspension technology to air rail vehicles. .

This is also the first time in the world that permanent magnet levitation technology has been applied to the manufacture of air-rail vehicles.

The reporter learned that the permanent magnetic levitation air rail project is another new type of rail transit mode developed after the permanent magnetic levitation and superconducting magnetic levitation. my country has completely independent intellectual property rights.

The permanent magnet magnetic levitation technology was first proposed by Jiangxi University of Science and Technology in 2014, and in 2020, the China Railway Sixth Institute Group will take the lead in promoting the realization of the transformation of this technology.

"This is due to our cooperation with Jiangxi University of Science and Technology. We have experience in building trains, and they have maglev technology." Chen Yang, general manager of the Air Rail Division of China Railway Science and Technology Group, said that Jiangxi University of Science and Technology has been deeply involved in the research of rare earth materials for many years. For the first time, the track uses rare earth materials to make permanent magnets and permanent magnet tracks, which can not only travel in suspension, but also have slow magnetic decay, which will increase the service life of the track.

It is reported that during the research and development process, Jiangxi University of Science and Technology and China Railway Science and Industry Group successfully overcome technical problems such as suspension structure, guiding structure, linear motor traction drive, and basic braking, and successfully passed the expert review.
