Zhongxin Finance, May 25. According to the website of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs on the 25th, a few days ago, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs issued a notice to deploy and implement the 2022 independent fishing moratorium on the high seas.

During the voluntary suspension of fishing, all ocean-going fishing vessels (excluding tuna longline and tuna purse seiners) such as squid fishing, trawling, and light purse seine (nets and cover nets) in China will stop fishing in the closed waters.

This year, for the first time, an autonomous fishing moratorium was implemented in the high seas of the northern Indian Ocean. In addition, some areas of the high seas of the Atlantic Ocean and parts of the high seas of the eastern Pacific Ocean that have previously been suspended for fishing have been suspended. The managed high seas areas (or fish species) have all been included in the scope of voluntary fishing bans.

According to the requirements of the notice, the time and sea areas for the implementation of the high seas independent fishing moratorium this year are as follows: from July 1 to September 30, the high seas waters of the Southwest Atlantic between 32°S-44°S and 48°W-60°W;9 From January 1st to November 30th, 5°N—5°S, 110°W—95°W in the East Pacific high seas; from July 1st to September 30th, 0°N—22°N, The high seas waters in the northern Indian Ocean between 55°E and 70°E (excluding the waters under the jurisdiction of the South Indian Ocean Fisheries Agreement).

The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs stated that since 2020, my country has implemented independent fishing moratoriums in key fishing grounds on the high seas such as the Southwest Atlantic and the East Pacific for two consecutive years.

With the joint efforts of local fishery authorities, industry associations, scientific research institutes and distant-water fishery enterprises, the measures for the independent fishing moratorium have been fully and effectively implemented.

The two-year fishing moratorium involved 70 distant-water fishing companies and about 1,500 distant-water squid fishing boats and trawlers that mainly fished squid, and none of them violated regulations.

According to the monitoring and analysis of relevant scientific research institutions, in the fishing moratorium in the Southwest Atlantic and East Pacific high seas, the squid carcass composition and growth and development have increased or improved significantly after the moratorium. Preliminary results have appeared, and good ecological, economic and social benefits have been achieved.
