The European unions of

Ryanair

cabin crew , including the two Spanish ones,

plan to call strikes this summer if the management of the low-cost company does not improve the conditions

of these employees.

The company could thus face a new summer chaos precisely in the first summer without restrictions due to Covid and in which it was expected to increase capacity and operations.

Seven unions from Belgium, Portugal, Italy, France and Spain (Sitcpla and USO) are

threatening to go on strike

if

Ryanair

does not take action and they have communicated this in a letter to the management.

This and the representatives of the workers held several meetings last week in which the situation of the cabin crew was addressed.

USO sources explain that the company continues to commit irregularities, that it has not complied with court rulings and they are

demanding a salary increase for this group of employees.

They also ask for an end to the illegal transfer of workers, as they explain.

It is not the first time that the Irish company has faced this problem.

In 2018, before the pandemic, stoppages were already called in the month of July at the airline and hundreds of flights had to be cancelled.

Close sources explain that "if there is this break in the summer months, the company will be forced to suspend flights again" in the affected countries.

Ryanair planned to hire more staff for the summer, as well as increase the number of flights.

The company held an event a few weeks ago to celebrate its 20th anniversary in Spain in which it announced that

they plan to create some 1,000 new jobs each year, until reaching 10,000 in four years.

Today its workforce in Spain is 6,000 people.

In our country, the company hopes to reach 50 million passengers this year and also open new bases and routes.
