China News Agency, Beijing, May 20 (Reporter Li Xiaoyu) In response to the Canadian government's ban on Huawei and ZTE's telecommunications equipment from entering the Canadian market, the spokesperson of the Chinese Ministry of Commerce said on the 20th that this was a wrong decision and sent a wrong signal.

The Canadian government issued a statement on May 19, announcing that the Canadian telecommunications system is prohibited from using equipment and services from Huawei and ZTE.

In this regard, a spokesman for the Ministry of Commerce said that the Canadian government insisted on imposing a ban on Chinese companies on the grounds of so-called "national security" without any conclusive evidence.

It was a bad decision and sent the wrong signal.

China strongly opposes this.

The spokesperson said that Canada's move violated market economic principles and free trade rules, damaged the commercial interests of relevant Chinese and Canadian companies, jeopardized the confidence of companies in the two countries to carry out mutually beneficial cooperation, and would have an adverse impact on China-Canada economic and trade relations.

The spokesperson said that China urges the Canadian side to view China-Canada cooperation in an objective and rational manner, and immediately stop wrongdoing.

China will assess the impact of the Canadian government's measures on Chinese companies and reserve the right to take all necessary measures.
